Mark Master - Ezekiel 44:5
Nolan Keck

As a young craftsman, a Fellowcraft, I vividly recalled my wages, but were they really more than Corn, Wine and Oil, emblematic of Plenty, Health and Peace? On the 6th hour of the 6th day of the week, I entered the Lodge of Mark Masters with such questions. I beheld the craftsmen chiseling, and was at a loss as the Master said, “You will make sure that all work presented has your Mark upon it.” My mark? The prophet Ezekiel once said “And the Lord said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the Lord, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.” Behold, I will present this work that I found to the Overseers as my own! A curious stone with a peculiar form! But alas, it was heaved to the rubbish pile. Ah, well, he who works must eat. Oh no! As I approached to receive wages, I was charged with the grievous crime of being an imposter! “Strike off his right hand” the Senior Warden said! But they showed me mercy and taught me a valuable lesson: never claim as your own the property of another or attempt to receive wages when none were due you. Only a true and faithful Craftsman with his mallet at his side will learn to be content. But the peculiar stone that was considered rubbish was actually the Keystone of the Temple! I lined up to receive wages once again, but this time, every single worker received only a penny. Those who had worked since the break of day were sore angry when they saw that their wages matched mine! They wouldn’t accept it. But when the Master brought to light the Traditional Law, we were all reminded to remain true to our agreement and to show that honorable character of a Mark Master whose conduct stands the test of time, fit for that Spiritual Building, that House not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
